Gatlinburg in the Winter

 So you didn’t get enough of Gatlinburg during the summer and you really want to come back.  The winter is actually one of the most beautiful times of the year to come.  The Great Smokey Mountains are covered in snow and the serenity and beauty that surrounds it all is just amazing.  There are many winter activities that you and your loved can do, so make sure you get your travel schedule ready.

Skiing is very popular here.  Ober Gatlinburg is the only ski resort that you will find in Tennessee.   The slopes have a combination of manmade and natural snow.  This makes it perfect for the skiers.  If you are a beginning skier, don’t worry, Ober Gatlinburg has eight ski slopes that range from beginner to advanced.  You can even take lessons when you get there.  They offer individual and group lessons rates.  If you want to do something just as thrilling as skiing, then hit the ice-skating rink and take in a few rounds of fun.  The indoor ice arena sits inside the massive mall in Gatlinburg.  You can skate here year round.  So if it happens to rain when you are visiting, don’t let that stop you from having a good time.  They carry over 400p airs of skates.  Men, women and children that love to snow ski also love to ice skate here.

If you are ready to warm up and go somewhere unique, Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokey’s is for you.  This fun filled place has over 10,000 exotic creatures.  You will see more fish in this aquarium than you will see people in the whole town of Gatlinburg.  The Shark Lagoon and Stingray Bay are two of the most popular areas of the aquarium.  The Tropical Rainforest is also a stunning area that has more than 2,000 species of fish, including the four-eyed fish, Oscars and Piranhas.  You will also see stingrays, poison dart frogs and iguanas here.After an afternoon in the Ripley’s Aquarium, plan your next one at the Smoky Mountain Winery.  The wines that have come out of this winery have received hundreds of regional, national and international awards.  You can take a tour of the production area and even sample some wines.  The tasting room has at least 20 different wines that you can sample.  Make sure you eat a big meal before sampling all these wines though.  There are over 20 wines that you can purchase before you leave.  Make sure that if you are interested in one that you purchase it there.  You cannot order the bottles online or get them anywhere else.  Some of the bottles include Peach Blush, Sangria and May Wine.  Spend your winter in Gatlinburg
